Avoiding ‘Stickies’ in Lash Extensions
If you’ve ever encountered ‘stickies’ during a lash application, you know how frustrating they can be. But what exactly are stickies, and why do we need to avoid them? Let’s dive in!
What Are ‘Stickies’?
Stickies occur when lash extensions haven't fully set and end up sticking to neighboring extensions. This is something we want to avoid at all costs, as it can affect both the quality of your work and your client’s comfort.
Why Should You Avoid Stickies?
Stickies cause discomfort for your client, and that’s the last thing we want during a lash session. Natural lashes grow at different speeds, so if one lash extension is stuck to another that’s growing slower, it creates a constant tugging sensation. This can lead to lash gaps and even damage to natural lashes over time.
If you notice stickies during your application, detach them immediately! The longer they stay, the stronger the bond becomes, making them harder to separate. Use the “banana peel” method to gently break the bond between the extensions.
Frequent stickies can also slow down your application process, as you'll need to stop and correct them, affecting your speed and efficiency.
How to Avoid Stickies
-
Choose the Right Adhesive:
Select an adhesive with a drying time that matches your application speed.- Slower application? Opt for a slower-drying adhesive.
- Faster application? Choose a faster-drying adhesive.
Knowing your speed will help you select the best adhesive for smooth, efficient work.
-
Perfect Your Isolation:
Clean isolation is key to preventing stickies. Proper isolation ensures that each extension is applied to a single natural lash, preventing them from sticking together. The combination of correct isolation and the right adhesive will significantly reduce the risk of stickies.
Wrap-Up
If you're struggling with stickies, don’t worry—practice and the right techniques will get you on track! By using the right adhesive, perfecting your isolation, and staying patient, you’ll be able to create flawless lash sets that your clients will love.
